Tom Hoban
CEO & Director of Business Development

Co-founder and involved with business development and client relations, Tom has over two decades of experience as a property manager, broker, and investor preceeded by three years as a commercial lending officer at a major national bank, located in Seattle.

Tom holds a BA in Business Finance from the University of Notre Dame.

Tom is active in his community, maintaining affiliations or board positions with: The Rotary Club, American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Providence Children’s Foundation, University of Notre Dame Alumni Club, various Apartment Operator's Associations, Boy Scouts of America, The YMCA, The Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs of America, and many others. Tom has been nationally published and writes a monthly commercial real estate column for The Snohomish County Business Journal and other regional publications. He is a frequently quoted source of real estate market information for a number of newspapers and publications. Tom has previously been featured as a host of his own real estate radio talk show and is a regular guest on the nationally-syndicated Real Estate Today show. He wrote and teaches the Washington Association of Realtor’s only two approved property management courses.

Tom is licensed with the State of Washington as the required Designated Broker for Coast|Sperry Van Ness®.

In October 2003 The University of Notre Dame Alumni Club honored Tom and Shawn Hoban as The University of Notre Dame “Co-Persons of the Year” for demonstrating the ideals of Notre Dame in their professional and community activities.

Shawn Hoban, CPM®, CCI
President

Co-founder and President, Shawn's background includes over 20 years with Coast, plus two years as a regional sales director for a national pharmaceutical company in Chicago, Ill.

He is a Certified Property Manager® with the Institute of Real Estate Management® and is a Certified Commercial Investment Member®. These designations are considered the two highest achievements in the property management and real estate industry. Shawn is the designated broker for Coast Real Estate Services.

Shawn is associated with a number of local community and industry groups, including the local chapter of The Institute of Real Estate Management, University Notre Dame Alumni Club, The Rotary Club, Housing Hope Board, Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy High School Board Chair, Providence Everett Children’s Foundation, and many others.

Shawn holds a BA in Business Finance from the University of Notre Dame.

Shawn was selected as one of the Puget Sound Region’s top 40 executives under the age of 40 ("40 under 40") by the Puget Sound Business Journal. Shawn is the only property management professional to earn this prestigious annual award. Under Shawn’s leadership, Coast has grown its management portfolio to over $1 billion in assets.

Brett Carlton
Vice President & Commercial Portfolio Manager

It is rare in the real estate management business to have a property manager who also happens to be an accountant and a lawyer.

Brett Carlton manages the commercial property management division for Coast and directly manages a portfolio of institutional and syndicated office, retail, medical/dental, and mixed use properties. Brett enjoys his work and offers clients a deep level of attention to detail and bottom line performance.

Brett graduated from The University of Puget Sound School of Law (now Seattle University Law School) in 1994 and also holds a BBA in Accounting with honors from The University of Texas. Prior to joining Coast, Brett was an auditor and tax staff accountant with Arthur Andersen, a special deputy prosecutor in the juvenile division of the King County Prosecutor’s Office, a Rule 9 Legal Intern for the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Controller of a wholesale distributing firm. Brett has roughly 30 trials under his belt and a broad range of business experiences that he brings to his professional management and leasing work.

Brett’s clients trust him and reward Coast with long-term relationships. Brett’s portfolio consistently out-performs market benchmarks in nearly all categories.

Brett, too, is active in the local community through St. Brendan Parish and School in Bothell, the Imagine Children’s Museum in Everett, The Providence General Foundation and the YMCA Adventure Guides program. Brett and his family enjoy spending time outdoors.

Craig Goldsmith, CPM®
Vice President & Commercial Portfolio Manager

Craig joined Coast Real Estate in 2000 after twenty years of real estate management experience with such notable companies as Bank of America, General Growth Properties, and Martin Smith Real Estate of Seattle.

Craig has over twenty years experience in asset, property management and commercial leasing. He is responsible for the property management and leasing activities for a portfolio of office and retail properties. Craig has a strong track record of servicing both institutional and private owner clients.
Craig earned a BA degree in Economics and Business Administration in Santa Barbara, California with an emphasis in Finance and Accounting. He also holds the distinguished designation of Certified Property Manager (CPM®) that is awarded by the Institute of Real Estate Management (I.R.E.M.) and is a licensed real estate salesperson with the State of Washington.

Donna Schaeffer, CPM®
Commercial Portfolio Manager

Joining Coast Real Estate in 2007, Donna Schaefer is the newest member of our Commercial Property Management team. Donna has 13 years experience in commercial management and leasing, focusing her attention most recently to privately owned office buildings and medical/dental facilities.

Donna was born and raised in Seattle and is a graduate of the University of Puget Sound with BA degrees in both Business and Psychology. Early in her career, Donna was part of several construction management teams, becoming familiar with contract negotiation and administration. This experience lead her to commercial development, and ultimately to commercial management and leasing.

Clients investing in properties faced with high vacancies, aged finishes, appearance, and deferred maintenance have relied on Donna’s experience to bring their property up to industry standard and back into competitiveness in the market. Donna takes pride in what she does, which is reflected in the client relationships she has maintained throughout her career. She attributes her success to her attention to detail and her personalized service.

Mike Balicki
Commercial Portfolio Manager

Mike Balicki is a Property Manager with Coast Real Estate Services. Mike currently manages commercial buildings for Coast Real Estate, including the Bank of Everett Tower, a 100,000 square foot building in downtown Everett.

Before becoming a Property Manager for Coast, Mike was the Director of Athletics for the Archdiocese of Seattle where he had direct oversight of over 50 parish/school athletic programs throughout Western Washington.

Mike graduated in 1997 from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Business Marketing. While attending Notre Dame, Mike played four years of varsity baseball.

Mike currently serves as a Board member for Providence Hospitality House, a shelter for homeless women and their children, in Seattle.

Josh Jansen
Senior Advisor – Multi-Family Sales

Josh Jansen is a leading producer for Coast, specializing in multi-family and investment sales.
He earned All American honors as a football player while earning a B.A. in Politics at Occidental College in Los Angeles, 2001.

Josh began his real estate career immediately after college with Marcus & Millichap in Bellevue, WA. He left to pursue playing professional football in the CFL for Montreal, after which he returned to sales as a business-to-business insurance broker. Josh formed Jansen Associates to pursue investment sales and in 2006, merged its function in to Coast where he specializes in multifamily and investment properties.

Transactions Josh has arranged include multi-million dollar investment properties and smaller duplexes. Each client’s interests are carefully considered and every effort on behalf of a client – whether seller or buyer – is pursued with equal vigor toward a financial goal the client sets and which Josh endeavors to achieve. A proponent of the virtues of small business, Josh serves on the board of the Snohomish County Private Enterprise Coalition, a local non-profit group that exists to coalesce the interests of small business owners in order to improve the entrepreneurial environment within the county. Josh’s passion for small business has also lead to positions on Campaign Finance Committees for statewide elections. He is a frequently quoted source of market information for various publications and has been a guest on the nationally syndicated “Tom Kelly Real Estate Today” radio show.

Blake Stedman
Senior Advisor

Blake Stedman serves as an Senior Advisor for Coast|Sperry Van Ness, specializing in sales and leasing of office, retail and land in the North Puget Sound area. With 22 years of commercial real estate experience, Blake has worked with regional, national and international companies in numerous Real Estate Management positions, overseeing portfolios in excess of $800,000,000.

Blake earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the California State University in Fullerton and was a scholarship recipient for the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business.

Blake resides in Bothell, Washington with his family.

Rick Graff
Senior Advisor - Corporate Retail Sales

Rick joined Coast Real Estate in 2005 after having spent the past 14 years in corporate real estate representing, Boeing, Verizon Wireless, Jamba Juice and Jack-In-The-Box.
Rick’s focus for the past 10 years has been developing strategic national “retail” roll out programs for both Verizon Wireless and Jamba Juice in a fourteen state territory including the Midwest, Southwest, Northwest and Mountain regions.

Rick earned a BA degree in Communications from Washington State University with an emphasis in Advertising.

Rick and his wife have two sons and live in Mill Creek, WA.

Josh Heyum
Associate Advisor – Leasing & Sales

Josh Heyum specializes in leasing and sales of office, retail, industrial, bio-tech and flex type product in the Puget Sound region. Formerly Director of Leasing for a large portfolio owner prior to joining Coast|Sperry Van Ness, Josh brings to his clients very creative and solution-oriented ideas that make for outstanding results on lease or sales transactions.

A proponent of real estate generally, Josh engages in real estate as an investor himself, offering clients a unique perspective as both an advisor and a principal.

Regarded by his peers as one of the top real estate professionals in Western Washington, Josh's extensive experience in leasing, sales and asset management has laid a foundation in creatively serving the needs of landlords, tenants, sellers and buyers of real estate.

Todd J. Thompson
Associate Advisor – Multi-Family Sales

Todd J. Thompson serves as an Investment Advisor for Coast | Sperry Van Ness, specializing in the multifamily properties throughout the Puget Sound.

Todd brings a unique depth of skills for immediate and effective underwriting to measure value and help clients make informed decisions.

Todd’s real estate background includes a working internship with Cushman & Wakefield while enrolled in college at the University of Washington, where he earned an economics degree. He joined a prolific development firm where he specialized in research and strategic underwriting and decision-making for residential and high-rise mixed-use product throughout the United States.

He is a life-time member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, is a member of the Private Enterprise Coalition of Snohomish County (PEC,) and is active in a number of industry organizations. In his spare time, Todd plays recreational basketball and enjoys the outdoors.

Joshua Freed
Associate Advisor

Joshua Freed serves as an advisor for Coast|Sperry Van Ness, specializing in sales and leasing primarily in King and South Snohomish County. Joshua has worked in development and home building in Snohomish County for a number of years. He currently serves on the Bothell City Council and is very familiar with the entitlement process. In addition to sales and leasing services, Joshua offers consulting services to aid clients in the accumulation and entitlement process for land, mixed-use, and diverse commercial development projects.

Joshua earned a bachelor's degree in Business Management from Seattle Pacific University and a Masters in Counseling from Mars Hill Graduate School. He lived overseas for seven years in Egypt and Pakistan and enjoys working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Joshua and his wife Lindie live in Bothell with their five children.

Jeff Ayers serves as a leasing advisor for Coast | Sperry Van Ness, specializing in North Snohomish County office space. Jeff earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Seattle Pacific University. At SPU, Jeff received special recognition for his entrepreneurship in running his own online business. Jeff’s experience in business were invaluable in developing his strong work ethic. Jeff ran cross country and track for Seattle Pacific, and still enjoys running, along with other sports. In his free time Jeff also spends time studying American history, current events and business..

Tom Smith
Advisor

R. Tom “Tom” Smith serves as a Senior Advisor for Coast/Sperry Van Ness, specializing in sales and leasing of office and retail properties in the Southwest Washington (Vancouver, WA & Portland, Oregon) including the I-5 corridor to Olympia, WA. With over 14 years of experience in commercial real estate, Tom has successfully represented investors in acquisitions and dispositions of investment property, as well as handled asset and property management of property portfolios. He is an investor himself, with a portfolio of properties valued at over three million. He has also been responsible for over eight million in assets as the sole asset manager and transacted and leased multi-million dollar portfolios. With a background in business, Tom’s unique strengths are an understanding of the operating end of office and retail tenant’s businesses, allowing him to properly size and place tenants where they are most likely to succeed. Tom holds the Graduate of the Realtor Institute (GRI) designation, Equity Marketing Specialist (EMS), and the Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR) designation. He has also completed the Course work for the Certified Commercial Investment Membership (CCIM) designation as provided by The Certified Commercial Investment Institute. Currently, he is an associate member of the Portland, Oregon CCIM chapter. Justin Carlucci
Associate Advisor

Justin Carlucci serves as a sales and leasing advisor for Coast|Sperry Van Ness, specializing in Eastside (Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland) office, retail, warehouse, industrial and flex properties. His unique legal, sales, lending and corporate management background will serve him well in the Eastside market, having transacted over $85,000,000 in sales and leases throughout his career.

Justin’s diverse commercial real estate experience includes a real estate development position at Wal-Mart, Inc. and a commercial lending position with GE Capital Real Estate. Justin also has brokerage experience at Newmark Knight Frank Real Estate, out of New York City.

Beyond his work experience, Justin is a NY licensed attorney, specializing in corporate and commercial real estate law and holds an MBA in finance from Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management.

As a founding board member of Destination Future Inc., Justin dedicates his time to creating and driving programs to help at-risk youth through international service trips. He has also worked extensively with the American Cancer Society and tutoring programs throughout the country.

Justin enjoys playing golf, soccer, water skiing and boating and is a member of the Redmond Ridge Men’s Club.
